Context 23

Last year I was a guest at Context 22 in Columbus, Ohio, and had a fabulous time.  You can check out the recap from 2009 here.

This August 27-29, I will be returning to Columbus, Ohio, for Context 23.  I will be sitting on a few panels and something is in the works to have a screening of my short film, Cake Batter, followed by a Q&A session.  Should be a great time.

Mark your calendars to be there!

Call For Submissions

Jessy Marie Roberts and Myself will be Co-Editors of an upcoming Anthology that will be published through Pill Hill Press during Fall 2010.

Fem-Fangs is an anthology of short stories (1k-7k words), allowing readers to delve into the alluring lore of the female vampire.

To read more about the project and/or to submit a story for consideration, you can check out the official Call For Submissions on Pill Hill’s website or by visiting the posting on Duotrope.

Good Luck!

Fall Writing Class

As you know, you can now enroll in the class I’ll be teaching this summer at the University of Akron (Akron, Ohio) – ‘So You Want To Be A Horror Writer’.

A description of the class; including cost, classroom location, dates/times and how to enroll can be found here.

In addition, the class will now also be offered during the Fall semester.  The class will have the same weekly format, times, costs, etc.  The Fall class has a tentative start date of September 14th and will run for 5-consecutive weeks.  So, if you can’t make the summer class for whatever reason, here’s another chance to join in the fun later in the year.  You can’t enroll in the Fall class as of yet since they are doing enrollment for the summer, but I wanted to put it out there so you can mark your calendars now, so you don’t go off and plan a late-summer vacation or anything like that.  Besides, what’s better than spending time inside a classroom when it’s warm and sunny outside, right?!

Enroll Now!

You can now begin enrolling in the class I’ll be teaching this summer at the University of Akron (Akron, Ohio) – ‘So You Want To Be A Horror Writer’.

The Gentle Art of Collaboration by Brian Keene

I first provided the following link to the article on Brian’s site about a year ago.  Since that time, it seems that collaborating on projects has taken up quite a bit of my own writing time.  And although, I’ve personally enjoyed working with the various writers I have over that same period of time, there are things for you to consider before diving into the world of working together with someone else – especially when you’re first starting out.  So, without further ado, here is the link.  Again.  Enjoy.

Writing Class in June Confirmed

I received confirmation from the University of Akron that the ‘So You Want to Be a Horror Writer? – How to Write Scary Stuff and Get it Published!’ – the class I will be teaching – will be offered as scheduled.  The class will run each Tuesday evening during June 8 – July 6 from 6 – 8 pm.

If you live in the Akron, Ohio area and received their course catalogs in the past, they are being mailed out for the summer semester the week of April 12th.  If you don’t live in the area but still wish to sign up and travel to the class, you can view the course description and enroll here (their website isn’t updated yet since the spring semester is still going on but should be in the next month).

Write What You Want To Write

I should have some news for you in the coming days but until then here’s an article written by Will Calif which was originally posted on horrorwriters dot net.  Calif begins the article talking about Stephen King and then goes into why ‘you’ should always write what you want to write.  It seemed to work out ok for King, right?  You can read the short article here.
