Fall Writing Class

As you know, you can now enroll in the class I’ll be teaching this summer at the University of Akron (Akron, Ohio) – ‘So You Want To Be A Horror Writer’.

In addition, the class will now also be offered during the Fall semester.  The class will have the same weekly format, times, costs, etc.  The Fall class has a tentative start date of September 14th and will run for 5-consecutive weeks.  So, if you can’t make the summer class for whatever reason, here’s another chance to join in the fun later in the year.  You can’t enroll in the Fall class as of yet since they are doing enrollment for the summer, but I wanted to put it out there so you can mark your calendars now, so you don’t go off and plan a late-summer vacation or anything like that.  Besides, what’s better than spending time inside a classroom when it’s warm and sunny outside, right?!

Special Book Signing and Cake Batter Showing

As you may or may not know, I am originally from the small town of Covington, Ohio.  Covington is about a half hour north of Dayton.  This is the reason the below press release is very special to me.  Thanks and I look forward to seeing a lot of new and old friends alike at the event.

4/9/10

COVINGTON – Former resident and highly touted horror author, TY SCHWAMBERGER, makes his first return to the area after more than five years to promote his writing at JR Clarke Public Library on Saturday, May 15th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm.  JR Clarke is located at 102 Spring Street, Covington, Ohio 45318.

Beginning promptly at 11:00 am there will be a showing of his soon-to-be-released short film, Cake Batter.  The film is based on one of Ty’s short stories that’s being featured in his short story collection coming out Fall 2010 by Dark Quest Books and was adapted into a screenplay and filmed by Shadetree Films out of Akron, Ohio. 

After the showing of the 25-minute film (rated PG13), Ty will remain at the library until 2:00, signing copies of his first novel, Night School.  There will only be a limited number of copies available for purchase at the signing, along with a very limited number of copies of the Cake Batter DVD that will be on sale.  You can either bring in your existing copy of his novel or a magazine that one of this short stories appeared in or you can purchase a copy of Night School for $15.00 (this is $10.00 off the cover price) at the same table Ty will be doing the signing.  Since the film hasn’t been released as of yet, pricing information won’t be available until the day of the event.

Writing Class in June Confirmed

I received confirmation from the University of Akron that the ‘So You Want to Be a Horror Writer? – How to Write Scary Stuff and Get it Published!’ – the class I will be teaching – will be offered as scheduled.  The class will run each Tuesday evening during June 8 – July 6 from 6 – 8 pm.  

If you live in the Akron, Ohio area and received their course catalogs in the past, they are being mailed out for the summer semester the week of April 12th.  If you don’t live in the area but still wish to sign up and travel to the class, you can view the course description and enroll here (their website isn’t updated yet since the spring semester is still going on but should be in the next month).

So You (STILL) Want To Be A Horror Writer?

As you know, beginning on February 16 – March 16, I will be teaching a 5-week class at the University of Akron (Akron, Ohio) on how to write and get your stuff published in the horror genre.  The class name is: ‘So You Want To Be A Horror Writer? – How to Write Scary Stuff and Get it Published!’.  The once-a-week-class will meet on Tuesdays from 6-8p.m.  You can find more information and sign up for the class here.

Now even better news.  Because the class is so unique (no other college or university in Ohio offers something like this in the horror genre that I’m aware of), the department of Workforce Development and Continuing Education at U of A, will be offering the class during their Summer semester as well.  It will be another 5-week class and will run from June 8 – July 6 on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m.

So, if you can’t make the Spring semester offering of the class, check out their website in a few months and enroll in the next one.  Hope to see you there!

I first mentioned here about my appearance at the 2010 National Haunters Convention.

As promised, I have some coupons now ready for you to request from me, if you would like to go and want to save a hefty $15.00 off the $25.00 admission price.  Below is what the full-sized and full-color coupon looks like.

There are 40 of these coupons available.  I do have another 40, but will be using those at my discretion in other ways.  So, be one of the first 40 to request one and I’ll mail it out to you Free of charge to your home.  I can’t guarantee that it will be mailed out in a week or even the next month, but I promise you that you will have it prior to the convention.

National Haunters Convention

The National Haunters Convention, runs from April 29th – May 2nd 2010 at the Valley Forge Convention Center in Kind of Prussia, Pennsylvania.  They will have over 108,000 square feet of space that will be filled with some of the best vendors in the haunting industry, along with having several different classes and even a haunted tour.  There are so many things that go on during this event that it is simply impossible to list them all here.  Instead, visit their site and spend some time cruising around and check out all that they have to offer.

Not only am I mentioning this convention because it’s an awesome event, but also since I have been invited to be the ‘Horror Author Guest of Honor’ at the event.  I will be at the convention from Friday, April 30th – Saturday, May 1st (times will be announced at a later date).  Among all the other events going on during the weekend, I will be doing several book signings (books will be available for purchase) and possibly showing the completed short film, Cake Batter, that was based off my short story by the same title (these will also be on sale at the event).  When the specific times of me being at the table selling my books and the movie become available, I will make sure to let you know.

Also, in the near future I will be offering to send you a special discounted coupon for the event which is regularly priced at $25.00 (which is still a hell of a deal).  I promise you that the coupon will be quite generous, so you’ll want to check back often so you can then get your fan reservation at the event squared away asap.

This should be an exciting event and am definitely looking forward to it!

I big thank you to Gail Roberts and the entire Heidelberg University Bookstore for ordering a large supply of Night School and inviting me to come in for a signing earlier today.  It was a pleasure to meet everyone that stopped by the table and to reminisce about the years 1996 – 2000 when I was a student there.  The campus has changed alot, but my feelings for the place will always be the same.

Appearance Reminder

Just a reminder that I’ll be signing books (and/or magazines) in the Bookstore (located in the Campus Center) at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio on Friday, October 23rd from Noon – 1:30.  There will be a small supply of books on hand for you to buy, so if you’re in the area and want to stop by, I would suggest ordering a copy asap to ensure you have it in time (you can always bring in your own copy for me to sign).
