The open casting call on Saturday went well for the film adaptation of my short story ‘Cake Batter’. Although, Warren with Shadetree Films would still like some more people to audition for one of the three roles.

I mentioned here that one of my short stories, ‘Cake Batter’ was optioned for a short film by Shadetree Films.
In the past day I have spoken with Warren Provencal, Owner and Director of Shadetree, and he informed me that he and his crew are ready to begin filming in the coming weeks.
There will also be an open casting call for the three roles (husband, wife and secretary), at which time I will provide the link so you can read about what he is looking for and how to go about contacting him to arrange a time for an audition.

Since bringing this site live late last year, I’ve had a great number of page hits with people coming on to find out more about me and my work. Because of this, I’ve registered on two different sites as well – YouTube & Facebook in the last four months.
On the YouTube site, you can view a one minute book trailer to Night School. On the Facebook page, you can get a little more personal view into my daily life and wanderings (some fans of authors, etc, like this sort of thing, though I’m not sure exactly why).

I was recently informed by my publisher of two happenings.
1) Night School is now being offered in a Large Print edition.
2) The price of the Hardcover edition of the book will go up (I don’t know to what) beginning next week.
So, if you’re partially blind order a copy of the Large Print and if you want the Hardcover at the current price, I would suggest ordering one in the next few days. My yet-to-be-published short story (part of my short story collection that is being considered by a publisher), ‘Cake Batter’, has been optioned for a short film by Shadetree Films. This is the same film company that made the Night School Book Trailer. You can view Shadetree’s work by checking out their You Tube and Vimeo sites.
The already finished screenplay (I’ve read it and it turned out great) was written by Warren Provencal, Owner and Director of Shadetree.
Though, Warren has yet to inform me on how long the film will be, I would imagine it will run around 10 to 15 minutes. The film will be posted online and will be shown at various independent film festivals. Warren also plans on making the film available for purchase on DVD, as well.
As I mentioned, the screenplay has been completed and the film is officially in Pre-Production. Casting will begin soon for the three roles (a husband, wife and secretary).
You might be wondering what ‘Cake Batter’ is all about. Since this short story is really short (only 2,100 words – definitely the shortest of all my stories), I can’t give much away, only to tell you that it is about a ‘cheating husband’.
I’ll update you as the project moves forward.
Night School was originally published in Trade Paperback in November 2008.
Since that time the book has sold ‘reasonably’ well. Actually, it has sold so well, my publisher has informed me that they will be publishing a Hardcover edition of the book. The best part – the Paperback and Hardcover are the SAME price!
I have let it be known in closed circles (before now) that I felt the Paperback was ‘overpriced’. Though, with the Hardcover now having the same price as the Paperback edition, I have say THIS price is well worth the price of admission.
Having said that, there is only one way (at least for the time being) that you can obtain the Hardcover edition of Night School – via my publisher, either online or by calling them to place your order over the phone using a credit card. Below is the ordering information.
