A Yearly Ritual
Today is my birthday – I’m 33 to be exact. One year ago, I did a post with the same title – A Yearly Ritual – where I looked at what I currently have going on and my goals for the next 12 months. Well, instead of listing the seven…yes, that’s 7 books, I have coming out in the next year and a half (as of right now – though I am extremely close to signing a contract to book #8) you can check out everything that’s forthcoming under the Published Works page. Needless to say – I think I’ve exceeded my goals from last year.
So, what’s in store for the next 12 months, you ask?
- Have an already completed novella picked up by a ‘certain’ publisher
- Have an already completed novel picked up by a ‘certain’ publisher
- Continue to pitch a novella idea to a ‘certain’ publisher
- Continue to pitch a column idea to a ‘certain’ magazine
- Finalize a novella idea to a ‘certain’ publisher
- Sign on the dotted line for previously mentioned book #8 in the coming week or two
- Finish the short stories for my 2nd short story collection, On Dark, Lonely Nights
- and last but not least…continue to turn-in all completed mss to my publishers on time (which they all know I’m good for!)
Yes, yes, before you even comment and say something such as, “what’s up with all the vague stuff.” All I can say is, “you’ll just have to wait and see, because this is the name of the game right now…and that you’ll be happy you stuck around for the ride.”

The Book List
I noticed that I’ve been making quite a few announcements as of late. This is a good thing, of course, but also might be mind-boggling to some of you who are trying to figure out when to budget your money for one of my future releases. So…below you will find a complete list of the seven…yes, I said, seven…books that are set to be released starting next month through 2012. These are strickly books that have my name on the front cover (i.e. anthologies where I’m the editor, novellas, collections, etc) and don’t include my non-fiction column(s) or short stories that are appearing in various publications. My goal is to have 10 books released by the end of 2012 – which there is a very good chance at happening if all goes well. Anyway, below is the list.
2010

There you have it. Seven releases in three years. Stay tuned, though, as I might just have a few other ‘announcements’ to make in the next few months, as well!
Relics & Remains
Relics & Remains is an upcoming anthology of short stories that will be released in March 2011 by Dark Quest Books. I will be the sole Editor on the project and have decided to make this particular anthology ‘Invite Only’. As you can imagine from the title, the 12 to 13 stories that will be contained in the book, will deal with dark tomes, relics that have evil origins, people that believe in such things, etc. Given the folks that I’m inviting to take part in this project, it should be quite a collection of terror-filled tales.
I’ll fill you in on the authors taking part in the project when the list has been finalized.
Dark Things II
The past few months I’ve been reading and editing submissions (now closed) for the female vampire anthology, Fem Fangs, which I’m Co-Editor. Fem Fangs will be released late September of this year.
My original plan after finishing up the the hard copy edits for the Fem Fangs antho was to begin writing some short stories for a still unannounced project (which I should be able to officially annouce within the next week…) that will be coming out late 2011/early 2012. Although, the owner at Pill Hill Press came to me and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse – to be the sole Editor on an anthology she’s soon opening up to submissions (actually it’ll be more of a roll-over type of thing).
In any event, starting early/mid-September, I will begin reading submissions for Dark Things II. At this point I’m guessing a tentative release date of early 2011. To read the Call for Submissions for Dark Things click here. The owner at Pill Hill would like this to be an ongoing series and I’m very excited to be part of the second book.
So, go read the Call for Submissions, and think about writing something for either volume I or II. Should be a scary good time.

An Update – For After Midnight
I announced towards the beginning of this year that Dark Quest Books picked up my first short story collection, For After Midnight, which contains 13 tales of terror and suspense. To give you an idea of the length of each story, the book should come out to be around 250 pages.
I mention this because as of yesterday, I received word from Dark Quest, that the collection is slated for release during the 4th quarter this year. I am also currently working with the Editor to come up with some ideas for the cover art.
As always, I’ll keep you informed of when and where you can pick up a copy.
Context 23 Schedule
As you know, I will be a guest at Context 23, in Columbus, Ohio, August 27th – 29th. If you haven’t already booked a room at the adjoining hotel, well, I’m not sure what in the world you’re waiting on. I had a wonderful time at Context 22 last year and I’m sure this year won’t disappoint. In any event, I wanted to update you on my schedule for the weekend (the below list does not include any of the devious things I’ll be getting myself into throughout the weekend):
Friday, August 27 at 8:30 pm – Showing of my short film, Cake Batter, followed by a brief Q&A session (a VERY limited number of copies – like, seven, which is all I have left – will be available for purchase right after we watch the 22 minute film).
Saturday, August 28 at 1:00 pm – Sitting on the panel, Making A Living As A Writer, with Tim Waggoner, Rosemary Laurey, Elizabeth Massie, Jerry Gordon, William H. Horner and Elie Harriett.
If you’re planning on attending the convention, please feel free to come up, say hello and chat a bit. The overall atmosphere at this con is very laid back (with a great night life) with plenty of diverse panels to attend to learn more about writing, publishers or the business side of the industry.

Fem Fangs Submission Deadline Approaching
If you’re still thinking about submitting a story to the female vampire anthology, Fem Fangs, I’m co-editor on, you need to do so soon.
The submission deadline is August 15th! The anticipated release date of the anthology will be late September of this year.
