Special Book Signing and Cake Batter Showing

As you may or may not know, I am originally from the small town of Covington, Ohio.  Covington is about a half hour north of Dayton.  This is the reason the below press release is very special to me.  Thanks and I look forward to seeing a lot of new and old friends alike at the event.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

4/9/10

COVINGTON – Former resident and highly touted horror author, TY SCHWAMBERGER, makes his first return to the area after more than five years to promote his writing at JR Clarke Public Library on Saturday, May 15th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm.  JR Clarke is located at 102 Spring Street, Covington, Ohio 45318.

Beginning promptly at 11:00 am there will be a showing of his soon-to-be-released short film, Cake Batter.  The film is based on one of Ty’s short stories that’s being featured in his short story collection coming out Fall 2010 by Dark Quest Books and was adapted into a screenplay and filmed by Shadetree Films out of Akron, Ohio.

After the showing of the 25-minute film (rated PG13), Ty will remain at the library until 2:00, signing copies of his first novel, Night School.  There will only be a limited number of copies available for purchase at the signing, along with a very limited number of copies of the Cake Batter DVD that will be on sale.  You can either bring in your existing copy of his novel or a magazine that one of this short stories appeared in or you can purchase a copy of Night School for $15.00 (this is $10.00 off the cover price) at the same table Ty will be doing the signing.  Since the film hasn’t been released as of yet, pricing information won’t be available until the day of the event.

Until meeting Ty in person for the first time (or again), you can learn more about him and his work at:  http://tyschwamberger.com

2nd Annual Richard Laymon Book Contest

As many of you know, the massive and incredibly awesome work of Richard Laymon is what inspired me to start writing.  Because of this, last year I started what has now become an annual event – The Richard Laymon Book Contest.  You can read about the origins of the contest here.  Now it’s back with a second go-around.  With many thanks to Ann Laymon, who graciously donated what you’ll see up for grabs, I bring you the first book that you can enter to win.

The Woods Are Dark

Publisher: Cemetery Dance

Pub Date: August 2008

The Woods Are Dark (The Original, Uncut Version)
by Richard Laymon

Featuring a special introduction by Kelly Laymon explaining the history of the manuscript, how this version came to exist, and why this edition is more than just 50 pages of deleted scenes added back in, but instead a totally different novel you’ve never read before!

About the Novel:
Neala and her friend Sherri only wanted to do a little backpacking through the woods. Little did they know they would soon be shackled to a dead tree, waiting for Them to arrive. The Dills family thought the small motor lodge in the quiet town of Barlow seemed quaint and harmless enough. Until they, too, found themselves shackled to trees in the middle of the night, while They approached, hungry for human flesh….

When this classic novel was first published in 1981, it was heavily cut, with nearly fifty pages removed. What remained was rewritten by both Laymon and a Warner Books line editor. Now, for the first time ever, the missing text has been completely restored—along with Laymon’s original words and vision—and the novel can finally be read the way it was intended.

This Trade Hardcover edition was originally priced at $40.00 back in 2008, but now is your chance to get it for free.

How to enter:

Send me an email (ty_schwamberger@yahoo.com) with the subject line, ‘Richard Laymon Book Contest’ and include your name and mailing address (required – entries that do not contain a mailing address will be deleted).

Your entry must be received by Midnight on April 16th.  The lucky winner will be notified via email by April 18th.  Please, only one entry per person.

Good Luck!

Adding Fuel to the Fire

I mentioned back in my first column on Hellnotes that the following authors and publishers would be doing special guest appearances over the course of the next year or so.  Among these names were; Maurice Broaddus (will be featured in the April column), Tim Deal, Jason Sizemore, Scott Sandridge, Jack Ketchum, Michael Knost, among many others.

It’s now time to tell you who some of these ‘many others’ will be (in no particular order): Tim Lebbon, Mike Oliveri, Wrath James White and Jeff Strand.  You can find their respective websites under the Links section to your right.

Pretty good, eh?!  I think so.

Until next time…
