Horror: Sub-Genres & Terms

One of the things I love about writing horror, is that you don’t always have to stick to the basic ideas of a group of teens going into the woods, a beast that scales the Empire State Building or a madman running loose in the streets.  Instead, you can include all different types of ideas and themes and still make the plot interesting and scary at the same time.

Having said that, I wanted to provide you with a list originally published by Dark Echo that can break it all down for you.  Click here to read the article.

Novella Project – Update

Some of you newbies on my site, might not be familiar with the novella project that was originally started with two other authors and myself.

Adam P. Lewis and I are both finished with our novellas.  The problem is, until recently, that we ‘lost’ our third author during the beginning of the project.  To this very day we are not entirely sure what happened to him, but we believe an evil garden gnome might have finished him off.  In any event, there is now a new author on board to write the third novella for the book.

Her name is Misty Gersley, editor at Withersin Magazine.  You might recognize the name of the mag, as I have written several book reviews in the past and continue to do so.  If you have never read the magazine, I highly suggest checking out the site and ordering yourself a single copy or better yet, a subscription.

Adam and I both believe she will make a wonderful addition to the project and are looking forward to reading the crazy stuff that will come out of her head!

Remember the Contest!

I’ve received entries for the current book in The Richard Laymon Book Contest from as far as Cananda and Portugal.  This is of course a good thing, although I still haven’t seen any from the US.  Because of this, the few entries received so far and the value of this prize (over $100), I am extending the contest till Midnight on Friday, August 7th.  The winner will be picked and notified via email on Saturday, August 8th.

Just a Reminder…

Since bringing this site live late last year, I’ve had a great number of page hits with people coming on to find out more about me and my work.  Because of this, I’ve registered on two different sites as well – YouTube & Facebook in the last four months.

On the YouTube site, you can view a one minute book trailer to Night School. On the Facebook page, you can get a little more personal view into my daily life and wanderings (some fans of authors, etc, like this sort of thing, though I’m not sure exactly why).

In any event, I wanted to remind you of both of these pages, along with a reminder that you can view a list of all my published works and interviews on Published/Upcoming Works (you can also access free stories via links on this page) and then head on over to the Storefront to find out where to purchase my novel, magazines my short stories have appeared in, buy a Night School t-shirt or the Night School Knife.

Enjoy!

Paco Ahlgren’s Discipline

As many of you are well aware, I started writing Night School in the early part of 2008.  It was then published in November of the same year.  Before that, I was a fan of the horror genre in general.  But, it wasn’t until I read Discipline by Paco Ahlgren that I really started to entertain the idea of writing a novel, myself.

Since I first read Paco’s novel at the end of 2007, he and I have become good friends and I am even more excited for him now, as his book was recentely optioned for the bigscreen.

So, if you are a fan of horrific or scifi tales, I would suggest checking out his website and then heading over to your local bookstore or online to pick up a copy.

Again, Congrats Paco.  You’re a hell of an author and friend and you deserve it!

Big Time Sale!

If you’ve been waiting for Night School to go on sale, now is your chance.  From now, until Friday, July 24th the price of the Paperback version of the book will drop to only $8.99!  That’s right, over twenty bones off the cover price!  But, remember, this is for a limited time only, so you’ll want to order soon!

Click here to be taken to my publishers site, which is the only place the special is available (it is NOT available on the retail sites).  Once you get to the site, enter my full name ‘Ty Schwamberger’ in the search box and hit enter.  Then choose the book on the right and place your order.  Simple as that.  You can also order via their customer service number, though ordering it online will be faster.

Enjoy!
