I received confirmation from the University of Akron that the ‘So You Want to Be a Horror Writer? – How to Write Scary Stuff and Get it Published!’ – the class I will be teaching – will be offered as scheduled. The class will run each Tuesday evening during June 8 – July 6 from 6 – 8 pm.
If you live in the Akron, Ohio area and received their course catalogs in the past, they are being mailed out for the summer semester the week of April 12th. If you don’t live in the area but still wish to sign up and travel to the class, you can view the course description and enroll here (their website isn’t updated yet since the spring semester is still going on but should be in the next month).
My short story collection, For After Midnight (tentative title), has been picked up by Dark Quest Books. The collection will be about 250 pages and contain the following stories.
In The Woods
The 7th House
Rebirth: The Rise of Pharaoh Masika
The Halloween Hero
The Legend of Johnston’s Creek
One Brew Too Many?
All in the Line of Duty (bonus novelette)
I suspect the book’s release will be during the 3rd/4th quarter of this year. As additional information becomes available, I’ll be sure to let you know.
I mentioned back in my first column on Hellnotes that the following authors and publishers would be doing special guest appearances over the course of the next year or so. Among these names were; Maurice Broaddus (will be featured in the April column), Tim Deal, Jason Sizemore, Scott Sandridge, Jack Ketchum, Michael Knost, among many others.
It’s now time to tell you who some of these ‘many others’ will be (in no particular order): Tim Lebbon, Mike Oliveri, Wrath James White and Jeff Strand. You can find their respective websites under the Links section to your right.
Pretty good, eh?! I think so.
Until next time…
Shroud Magazine, who has featured the likes of John Shirley, Rick Hautala, Michael Laimo, Tom Piccirilli, JF Gonzalez, Tim Waggoner, Jeff Strand, Jason Sizemore and articles by Michael Knost and Brian Keene, among many many other great writers – recently picked up my 7,500k word story, ‘Liquid Courage’ for Issue #9. I don’t know the exact publication date as of yet, but speculate it will be Late Summer/Early Fall of this year (2010).

(May-June 1984, signed first issue of Orion’s Child Magazine)
Orion’s Child Magazine holds a special place in my writing career. My first short story, ‘Gnomus’ was published in August 2008 and later came ‘The Ringmaster’ in October 2009. Since ‘Gnomus’ was first published, Gabriel Cole, editor at OC, and I have become good friends. In fact, he was gracious enough to send me the above magazine yesterday to add to my collection. It looks awesome and I can’t wait to launch into it.
If you’ve never checked out OC, take a gander at my stories above and then head over and read the February Issue.
Now on sale are t-shirts and a coffee mug to promote the 25-minute short film, Cake Batter. The film is based on a short story of mine and was adapted and filmed by Shadetree Films. If you haven’t seen the 1-minute trailer to the film yet, you really should. The film should be released on DVD within the coming months.
The t-shirt and coffee mug will sport the same design as the DVD’s cover, as shown above.

An annoucement will be coming in the next few days that may be of interest to you regarding some promotional items that will be on sale for the film, Cake Batter.

A new contest will finally start again in the next week or two. Because of the length between contests, I’m making sure this one is a BIG one. The value of the prize will be well over $200.00. This item is horror related but not a book.
Check back soon for details on both things!

It’s the dawn of exciting things to come in 2010. This is only the beginning!
Tonight I completed my novella that will be part of the previously mentioned T.D.T Project. Now, I will be going back to the completed ‘monster’ novel to edit it and get it ready to submit. After that, it’ll be time to either write a novella for another future project or start the next novel. I’m not sure which at this point. Thoughts? What subject matter would you all like to see me write next?
Until next time…
