2 & Done

I normally don’t post very many personal things on here.  But, I figured it was time to vent a little and give you a little snippet on what I’m going to be up to going forward.

The last 4 months have been exhausting for me.  I’ve been working both a full & part time job, besides trying to keep up with my various writing and editing projects.  You might not be able to tell from everything I have going on, but I’ve reached my limit.  Something has to give…and I’ve decided it will be the pointless PT job.

What does this mean?

I’m going to kick it up another notch the next few months.

Really, it came down to this: prior to 4 months ago I had no trouble saying, “Sure, I can complete a novella for you in a month.  No problem.”  Then bam!  It’d be done.  Or, “You need a short story in two days?  No problem.”  Bam!  Done, again.  Needless to say, the last few months haven’t been that way.  Sure, I still have plenty of things coming out during the next two years, but during the last 4 months I had to start carefully planning each and every turn-in date to make sure I could meet it.  And even though deadlines are the name of the game (and to some extent I actually dig them) this isn’t the way I like doing things.

Fact of the matter is – I like to write.  A lot.  My output can be pretty staggering when I actually have the time to do it.

The last 4 months haven’t been that way.

Instead, I’ve had to carefully plan when I was going to sit down and do some writing, editing, whatever.

No more.

Two weeks and I’m done.

That’s my plan, my notice, to my PT job employer come this evening.

2 & Done.

Yup.  That’s right.

Release Updates (and a few teasers)

Just wanted to bring you up to speed with some release dates over the next few months.  Unless noted below, everything is still on schedule.  Oh, there’s also some additional news after the updates.

Fell Beasts – Is currently at the Printer, available now for Pre-Order (shipping by month end) and you’ll be able to purchase in both Trade Paperback and Ebook by 2/28.

The Fields – My zombie novella will be coming out in late March instead of this month.  (wait till you see the blurbs for this bad boy!)

For After Midnight  – My first short story collection will be sent to the Printer on 2/25.  Available in Trade Paperback on 3/24 and Ebook on 3/31.

Relics & Remains  (Ambrotos Press) – I am currently editing the stories, the cover art is complete and will be sending to Dark Quest (parent company of AP) during the next week.  Originally scheduled for a March release, this will now be sent to the Printer on 4/29, with a release date of 5/27.  This may seem like a long way off for an originally scheduled 1Q release, but the wait till definitely be worth it.

I should also have at least 3 new announcements for future books in the coming month.  All novellas; one will be a non-traditional werewolf tale, a coming-of-age occult story (remember me talking about this one?) and another zombie novella.  All will have release dates during the next 2 years.  There are also some additional things in the works, but I can’t quite say anything about those yet.

As I’ve said for the past few months…

Stay tuned.  This is only the beginning.

Back cover blurb:

Almost every kid believes there are things lurking under their beds or waiting in the shadows for the opportunity to jump out and attack if they happen to play outside too far into the night.  But, as we grow up, we mature and realize there really aren’t things that go bump in the night.

Or is there…

In this eclectic collection of eleven short stories by some of today’s veterans and up-and-comers in the horror genre; you will uncover things that may revert your mind back to when you were a little kid.  You’ll discover: hairy beasts that dwell in caves and wander the wilderness in search of prey, things that slither and lurk in the water, creatures from Hell, people that think they are a monster or an animal, dwarf-beasts, vicious winged creatures and a macabre experiment on an unfortunate soul.

But, you can handle all that, right?

If you think so, forget about calling for mommy or daddy to come save you if something bad happens…

…cause you’ve been warned.

They think they’re going to be rich and famous.

Twisted Tales – Now Available!

Twisted Tales from the Torchlight Inn (a 3-novella collection by Thomas A. Erb, Dean Harrison & Myself), which contains my novella, ‘Last Night Out’, is now available for purchase through an affiliate bookstore of Wicked East Press.  Below is a synopsis for each novella, followed by ordering information.

‘Last Night Out’ by Ty Schwamberger

Gabe, Alan and Erin thought one last night out on the town before their junior year of college came to an end would be fitting.  They were the best of friends and not seeing each other for an entire Summer vacation was not something they were looking forward to.  So they did what they always did on a Friday night – they went to a bar.  Only this time they decided to try someplace new – The Torchlight Inn.

Even though there is some internal strife within the group of friends by the time they make it to the bar they are eager to try and make the night one to remember.  But it’s during their time in the shabby bar that they come face to face with some seedy bar patrons, a biker gang and one strange acting bartender named, T-Bone, that make their time together all that much more interesting.  But all is still well until Alan and Erin mysteriously disappear and Gabe has to try and find his friends before paying his bar tab and walking out of the joint.

Little do any of them know the secret that the place holds…

Beneath its cracked floorboards there is a whole new kind of terror waiting for them…

In the dark recesses under The Torchlight Inn.

‘Tones of Home’ by Thomas A. Erb

Ashley and Maurice are in love.  The two of them are headed to her hometown for the holidays to share the good news with her family.  Those two things would drive any young man to drink but add the fact that he’s from the south and an African-American and they are headed to rural upstate town of Arcadia Falls, NY, where the reputation of toothless and inbred rednecks even scares the streetwise kid from North Carolina.  Nevertheless, they are truly in love and Maurice is sure he’s encountered more dangerous things on the gang-filled streets of Durham.

He is wrong…

After a few practical jokes go wrong, Maurice is introduced to the Vanslycke family and welcomed with a lot of drinking and backslapping.  An overzealous brother and a promiscuous bartender are the least of his concerns.  Little do they know that four strangers are about to enter The Torchlight Inn and will forever change their lives.

Blood flows as these Faux, Fab Four impersonators search for the “One”.  They have a list, one of the bar’s occupants is on it, and they aren’t leaving until they have found them.  No one is safe.

A heavy winter storm rages outside the small tavern, while rage and gun fire rage inside.  Can the young lovers escape?  Who is the “One”?  And what do the Frightful Four want?

‘Off Limits’ by Dean Harrison

For spring break, Ellen Campbell is not going to party at the beach—she’s taking her new boyfriend, Shawn Farris, home to Miller Falls to meet her parents for the first time. She is very excited about it, but also nervous as to how her father, a famous crime writer, will take to Shawn, her very first boyfriend. Nevertheless, she is confident things will go great. After all, Shawn’s a great guy—she wouldn’t have fallen for him otherwise. But when the happy couple arrives to the house, they find an unexpected guest—Ellen’s brother, the black sheep of the family.

He has returned home after a long hiatus, and Ellen is terrified to find out why. This family reunion may not go as well as she thought, especially after Ellen’s brother, seeking forgiveness, invites them to come along with him for a beer at a bar called The Torchlight Inn.

You can order a copy of the Trade Paperback here.

This novella collection will be also be available at all major online retailers sometime next week.

Why I Do What I Do

I’ve gotten a few emails about this, so I figured it was time to post something about my writing, editing anthologies, and my role as Acquisitions Editor of Ambrotos Press.

As I touched on in my article for Morpheus Tales #11, it’s all about diversifying yourself.  This also goes into why I don’t ever see myself having an agent.  Reason being; I really do enjoy all aspects of the publishing world – from writing a story, editing them, or working with a publisher on the business side of things.  I find the process of each thing fascinating, and I think if you follow me on here or on Facebook, you’ll see how passionate I am about it all.  I enjoy crafting a story just as much as working with another author to get their short story, novella or novel into print.  I dig working with cover artists on my own stuff and that of others.  Pretty much the whole thing.  I can’t speak for the other genres, but folks in the horror realm are some of the nicest and most down to earth people I have ever met.  I love this world, even though it does make my blood pressure rise sometimes, and it’s always been my dream to do it fulltime (though some ask how I work two jobs and find time to write…to which I reply…Red Bull) one day – which I have no doubt will happen.

The point of all this is; yes, I am still writing (which can be seen by the number of books I have coming out over the next two years), being the Editor for anthologies AND running Ambrotos Press.

Welcome to my world.  This is only the beginning.
