I know my online presence (at least on here) has been very sporadic so far this year. But, let me assure you, that doesn’t mean things, lots of things, aren’t happening behind the scenes. I’ve bullet-pointed them, below.

  • I’ll be making my first public appearance in more than two years on Saturday, May 17th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Barnes & Noble, 4015 Medina Rd, Fairlawn, Ohio. This is a “Local Spring Author Exhibition” and should be a fun event. The store will have copies of DININ’ and Last Night Out available, but you are more than welcome to bring copies containing any of my work for me to sign. Also, my good friend and fellow (sports) writer, Vince McKee, will be signing at the event. Come see us, buy some books, then after the event join us at a nearby bar for a few drinks.
  • The narration for the audio book editon of The Killing Club by Chloe Golden is nearing completion and should be available for purchase within the next month.
  • I’m pleased to announce I’ve signed another narration contract with Chloe to produce an audio book edition of Last Night Out. It will be available later this year.
  • Re-Vamped: Blood Lust Revenge, co-edited with Adam Lewis, will be released in Kindle format this coming weekend. This is a re-release of the former Fem-Fangs (2010) anthology.
  • In March, I turned in a 80,000 word manuscript for my first non-fiction (horror) book to my UK publisher. Details are forthcoming, but I’ll warn you now, save your money and be ready to pre-order quick, because this limited edition hardcover (which will NEVER be printed again while I’m alive) is going to blow your mind!
  • I didn’t find out until last night, but The Best Horror of the Year, Volume 4, edited by Ellen Datlow and released by Night Shade Books in 2012, gave a nod to the Fell-Beasts anthology I edited. At the beginning of the section Ellen noted, “I will not be mentioning every original anthology I’ve received during 2011. I will try to provide descriptions of the best of those containing what I deem good horror or very dark fiction.” Nice to get a compliment every once in awhile. Thanks much for the kind words, Ellen.

Synopsis
 
When the succubus Lorelei sees the angel Azaziel from across the bar, she knows he’s been cast out of Heaven, but is not yet Fallen. She resolves to do whatever it takes to bring the angel down. When she trails him back to his lair in the warehouses outside of downtown Los Angeles, they seduce each other. Later, on the streets of L.A., they encounter Ashleigh Johnson, one of Azaziel’s mortal charges, dying of hepatitis in the street. The angel rescues Ashleigh’s soul from two harpies poised to devour it and uses it to possess Lorelei. Other angels don’t foresee any positive outcome to any of this. In their eyes, their brother has endangered a mortal soul and compromised his own standing in Heaven. When they intrude, Lorelei flees — taking Ashleigh Johnson along for the ride. In the process, Lorelei discovers that she has developed a soul of her own, a soul which is most certainly damned. Before long, her sister Floria tracks down a defrocked priest willing to exorcise Ashleigh’s mortal soul from Lorelei’s infernal flesh. The intimate little ritual swells into a virtual Who’s Who of Hell’s presence in L.A.

Synopsis

A weapon, designed ‘in the dark’ at an army barracks just outside of Cardiff, South Wales, has been unleashed. Jeff, a mild-mannered air enthusiast, has just murdered his sick wife. He had planned for them to stay inside, to lock the place down, to wait it out. But Katherine became sick – the latest casualty of an unknown virus wiping the British population out in their thousands. TV, radio and all other means of contact to the outside world have gone. Jeff, alone, decides to make a break for the plane he has stationed at Cardiff airport. Between Jeff and freedom stands millions of infected. If only he can reach the hangar, then he’ll be safe. He’ll be able to fly to Scotland to reunite with his sister. Along the way, Jeff hooks up with Maria, who has been left stranded at the petrol station where she worked. They meet up with Ollie and Roxie – a pair of biker lovers who have survived the outbreak on the road. Together, their chances of survival are increased, as long as they can all just get along. It’s not just the infected they will have to dodge; a dark and depraved enemy is on their trail. A foe who might just hold the key to surviving in a country gone to hell.

Bio

David Owain Hughes is a writer of horror fiction who has recently started dabbling in horror journalism. He’s an editor/writer for Blood Magazine and has a few short stories in print. His first novel, Walled In, is was released earlier this year (2014), alongside his short story collection, White Walls and Straitjackets. After discovering the novel One Rainy Night by Richard Laymon many moons ago, he set out on a path to become the best writer he could. He also holds a BA and MA in Creative Writing, and hopes one day to write full-time.

March Plug Month 2014

Goodbye, 2013. Hello, 2014 (aka End Game).

The year 2013 was a very good one for me, personally and professionally. On the personal side: I got married on June 15th, had a wonderful summer with my daughter, had a fantastic two week honeymoon (week one was a Caribbean cruise with stops in the Bahamas, St. Thomas & St. Martin, then the second week spent in Ft. Myers, FL), my new bride and I bought a new house, moved in on the 21st of December, just in time for us to spend Christmas week together with my daughter. On the professional side: House Call (based on my novella of the same name was released on DVD), DININ’ (my Bad Moon Books novella was optioned for film adaptation by Cinder Path Productions), two of my short stories came out in foreign languages, “Two Men, A Rat, And A Lady” (published in Tales of Obscenity Magazine), had articles published in both Tales of Obscenity and Beware the Dark Magazines, my novellas Last Night Out (Crowded Quarantine Publications) and The Killing Club (Crossroads Press) both came out during the year, along with other various articles and interviews.

That’s not too shabby for one year, right? I would agree. Well, for the most part. See, I have no qualms with the personal side, because, honestly, it can’t get much better than that for anybody. There was, however, something brewing on the professional side. More on that later.

So, you ask, what’s on the horizon professionally for Ty Schwamberger in 2014? You’ll see a column hosted by me in Beware the Dark Magazine #2, the hopeful funding and filming of DININ’, audio book editions of The Killing Club, DININ’ and Last Night Out, a new edition of The Fields (Severed Press, which will include the original Introduction by Jonathan Maberry, along with a brand new Forward by Joe McKinney and an Afterward by me), an original mummy novella, The Desert (Severed Press), the mid-year release of my creature novel, Deep Dark Woods (Crowded Quarantine Publications, with original cover art by Nick Rose) and the late-year release of a tentatively titled novel, The Bad Apple (T Allen Press). Those are the items currently set in “stone” (given the state of this business I use that term as loosely as possible). I’m also currently in discussions with a publisher to potentially release some additional foreign language editions of my catalog, as well as being in the VERY beginning of talks with a well-known horror news site to do some exciting work for them.

Ok, it’s time to backtrack a bit. Actually, it’s time to go way back. Back to the beginning. Early 2008. The completion of my first novel. Now, fast forward to 12/31/14, or, what I like to call: END GAME.

Our Honeymoon

As I write this, my wife, Sheryl and I (married June 15th) are on the next to last day of our long overdue honeymoon. It’s been a fabulous two weeks; the first on a Caribbean cruise, the second in Ft. Myers, Florida. We’re both sad it will be coming to an end with tomorrow afternoon’s flight back to cold Ohio. In any event, I wanted to share some photos with all of you.
